If you have not played Roll, Say, Keep with your kiddos, you are missing out on some FUN! I knew about the game in the past but never really found anything that blew me away to use with my kids, or that I could that fit with my curriculum, until I discovered Deedee Wills' Roll, Say, Keep for reading. Not only are they editable (thank you!) so you can make them with sight words or I've also done CVC words for a bit of a twist, they also come with words already on them that you can just print and use. My kids have LOVED playing this game. It's very similar to "Oh, No!" or "Kaboom!" that I have done in the past with popsicle sticks, which was fun, but I guess I just like these better because you can change the themes up and it's still the same game. My students can keep practicing their skills (which I can change as I change the theme or keep things the same) and they are not getting bored with that they are doing. The start of the year there are ones with words but also ABCs so you can work on letter recognition and sounds.
Since this game was such a hit with my kiddos, I wanted to have one for math. In the editable versions there is only a way to add numbers or number words but not shapes, tally marks, or ten frames. So I asked Deedee if a math one could be made. Being the wonderful person that she is, she agreed to have us work together on it. So we have several versions for you to use throughout the year. Each version has numbers to 20, number words to 20, 2-D shapes, ten frames, fingers, tally marks, and also addition and subtraction within 10.
I made a short video explaining how to play Roll, Say, Keep and how I like to store the cards and set up the game.
I really hope you and your students enjoy the game as much as mine have. There is a free sample coming soon but if you would like to purchase the bundle, you can click
